Undiscovered lake treasures

Dive into the beauty of the Ticino region

Divine destinations, wonderful walk ideas, and delicious delicacies for your holiday at Lake Maggiore.

Whether you’re looking for stunning views, authentic regional cuisine, or charming, historical towns, Lake Maggiore offers something to suit all tastes and interests. We’ve collected the best tips for your holiday at Vista Lakefront Boutique Hotel here.

1. Hike to the summit of Mt Mottarone
If you love to be active in the great outdoors, Mt Mottarone is an absolute must. While many visitors use the lift to reach the summit, there are various hiking paths from Stresa on the Piedmont side of the lake that offer a spectacular view of Lake Maggiore. The route up to the top isn’t especially difficult and rewards you with one of the best panoramas throughout the region.

2. The grottos
Grottos are traditional, usually family-run restaurants or guesthouses that are often located in old, historical buildings. The word comes from the Italian “grotto”, meaning “cave”, and these rooms were originally used to store wine and other provisions. Today, the grottos are known for their authentic, regional cuisine served in a cosy, rustic atmosphere. Our Vista tip: You simply have to try the polenta and savour simple yet tasty Ticino cuisine prepared the traditional way!

3. One of the most enchanting places on the lake: Cannobio
This charming town on the Italian western shore of the lake is a real gem that has definitely earned a spot on your must-see list. Cannobio blends history, nature, and Italian dolce vita in an irresistibly enchanting way. It’s the perfect destination for a romantic day trip!

4. Too beautiful not to mention: the Botanical Gardens of Villa Taranto
Villa Taranto, located in Verbania on the north-eastern side of the lake, is a verdant treasure that’s in a class of its own. The magnificent gardens of the villa are the result of a passionate collection of plants from all over the globe and make an impressive setting for a day trip with fairy-tale charm. The Botanical Gardens of Villa Taranto are quite rightly considered some of the most beautiful in the world!
